Common year-end questions

Using your benefits before your plan year ends

Many health plans run on a calendar year, which means deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums reset on January 1. If you've already met yours, the end of the year can be a practical time to look at care you've been putting off. Not every plan works this way, so the best first step is to check. Call us or request an appointment, and our team will help you verify your benefits before any treatment decision.

What happens if I've already met my deductible?

Once you meet your deductible, most plans start sharing the cost of covered care, usually through coinsurance or copays, until you reach your out-of-pocket maximum. After that, covered in-network care is generally paid by your plan for the rest of the plan year. What that means for you depends on your plan, whether a treatment is covered for you, and when it happens. Our Georgia Endovascular team can help you check.

Does my deductible reset on January 1?

For many plans, yes, but not all. Some employer plans use a plan year that starts in a different month. Your member portal, insurance card or HR department can tell you your reset date.

What's the difference between a deductible and an out-of-pocket maximum?

Your deductible is what you pay for covered care before your plan starts sharing costs. Your out-of-pocket maximum is the most you'll pay for covered, in-network care in a plan year. Once you reach it, your plan generally pays for covered care for the rest of that year.

Can I have a consultation now and decide on treatment later?

Yes. A consultation doesn't commit you to anything. If treatment is recommended, timing depends on scheduling, any prior authorization your plan requires, and what works for you.

Is uterine fibroid embolization covered by insurance?

UFE is covered by most health insurance plans. Our Georgia Endovascular team will verify your benefits and explain any out-of-pocket costs before your procedure, so there are no surprises.

Is hemorrhoid artery embolization covered by insurance?

HAE is covered by most major insurance plans when medically necessary. Our Georgia Endovascular team will check your benefits and explain what to expect before you decide.

Does Medicare cover genicular artery embolization?

Coverage for GAE, including under Medicare and many commercial plans, depends on your plan, diagnosis and medical-necessity requirements. Our team verifies your benefits and handles any prior authorization before treatment, so you know your costs up front.
